Tell us about the person behind the business – You:
I started making bears about 13 years ago, completely self-taught. At first I used ready-made patterns until I got the hang of it then progressed to designing my own bears. Life’s circumstances got in the way and I ended up taking a break from bear making for several years but I really missed it! The process of creating a little being from a flat piece of mohair is so satisfying! Each little bear has their own little personality!
I chose the name Something Special Bears because each of my bears has a little “something special” about them… something that is not like other bears. My spice tin bears are a prime example. I searched high and low to see if anyone else had thought of this idea and couldn’t find anything! Some others have arms and legs sculpted of clay, each one is unique!
I make most of my bears from mohair but you will also find vintage wool and viscose from time to time. Oh! And something special of course! :o)
Where do you get your inspiration from?
My inspiration for these bears comes all from within my little head!
How did you get into starting your own business?
I started my business years ago with my mom, selling on eBay. We sold there for many years and eventually found Etsy and fell in love!

What makes you relax?
Working on my bears is relaxing for me. I usually work in silence with no radio or television, just my thoughts and the sounds of my dog snoring! LOL!
