When I talk about the lottery you probably know what I am talking about. Their adverts are everywhere tv, supermarkets, magazines, etc..

Use the lottery concept to help boost business sales

What is the lottery

The lottery is hope, it gives people hope. They hope that when they play they are in with a chance of winning big, and it’s that big win that will change their life forever.

Even though millions of people never win, people continue to play because they believe that there’s a chance. If you look at it logically the main benefit they are selling to the consumer is that you have to be in it to win it.

If you don’t buy a ticket you could have won but now you will never know. Now when you do buy a ticket but don’t win, at the back of your mind you will wonder, if you don’t repurchase another ticket your numbers may win.

It’s a deep sense of fear, we want to able to have money to do as we wish but life is getting harder for many. Lotteries have become the light at the end of the tunnel.

Now you as a business owner can tap into this and boost your traffic or sales

You can also look at doing a giveaway. contests, competitions all of these have the same end goal. Get the public to take part to hopefully win the prize.

As a business owner, you also want to have these people come back to your store, to purchase. Or at least remember you for when they do need something you offer.

I remember when my local Morrison supermarket used the lottery concept. I walked through the main doors and saw a giant board showing numbers of some kind with dates beside them. It wasn’t until I finished at the checkout and received my receipt. That the cashier explained what I needed to do.

You see, on my receipt, there was an 8 digit number. I needed to match my 8 digit number to the number on the board. That day’s numbers would be printed on the board the next day. So I could either go back to the store to check the numbers or check it online. It was a clever idea don’t you think, this got me thinking, this could work for your businesses.

There are a few ways you can implement this system

Like Morrisons, you could include it with each purchase, for that encourages more sales from your customers. However, you also want to get those people who are not ready to buy from you to join in.

The prize does not have to be money; it could be any prize you wish, a discount, an item from your store, etc. However, it has to be worthwhile otherwise people won’t want to enter. Show them the benefits of taking part.

Simply create a section on your website like a sign-up contest. Then all they would need to do is submit their details to enter. You could also create a page showcasing the prizes & the benefit, to help people excited.

You decide when you are going to choose a winner or winners. If you don’t get a lot of traffic it would be better to pick your winner at the end of a week or month. This gives you time to get a good amount of entrants.

When your lottery has ended and you have your LIST of entrants, you can use List Randomizer to pick your winner(s). All you need to do is copy and paste your list of emails into part 1 on List Randomizer and click Randomize. You can then pick either the 1st one or the last one in the list as your winner it’s up to.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed your post. The concept of using the lottery idea for business has always existed, but you have put it forth brilliantly. As small shop owner, I myself use some of the strategies that you have referred to. I agree with that the newly launched health lottery game has created tremendous excitement amongst the public. It has given people one more chance to win.

    • Thank you for reading my post, I am glad you found my information helpful. Many strategies used for promoting the lottery systems, and other governments projects can be used for small businesses. We just need to look at them a little differently and scale it down for us to use effectively.
