The internet makes hard work look easy
It’s very easy to come on the internet and open up a business. Without marketing, you really have no business. All you have is a website, looking pretty but not being seen by anyone apart from you and your family.
We are not taught marketing unless you went to college or university and chose to study it. For most business owners that’s something we have to go out and learn for yourself. Am I talking to you here? However, once you decide to learn & apply those methods to your business, that’s when you see the power of what marketing can do.
It’s a shame back to marketing basics is not a prerequisite course you had to take before you could buy your domain name or create your business site. If that where the case I’m sorry to say many of the business’s you see or don’t see today (these have not learnt marketing yet) would not actually be in business.
If all free websites did not exist, there would be fewer businesses online today. I do believe that the internet even though a huge blessing to allow us to work for ourselves, can also be a vision of hollow dreams for many. For they are not ready to have a business. However, it seems easy because so many are now doing it. Plus you have sites that are free to start up with. Many still believe if they build it, customers will start coming to their websites.
Everything starts with knowing the basics
Question – What is Marketing? The answer is:
Question 2 what does Marketing mean? The answer is:
Now you know what marketing is and what it means. Do you know how to use that for your own business?
Let’s look at the core of marketing which is Management process of creating an image designed to attract customers.
You have to figure out what exact information you are going to use for your business image. And how to keep your information consistent when it comes to marketing on different platforms all over the internet. One thing I learned early on is whatever marketing you pursue, your business the message & information has to be consistent. I will also tell you it’s not easy. Especially if you are multi-talented and you want to serve many people with different needs. This will build a strong brand for you whether you understand business branding or not.
Marketing is more than your url
Marketing is not just about putting your url on sites or listing your products on Twitter or Facebook. Take a look at big companies they;
1 Don’t just put there url all over the internet, hoping people will know who they are and what they sell
2 They don’t fill their Twitter stream with their latest products
3 They don’t fill their Facebook fan page with images of products they want you to buy
What they did first was craft their business image | message and market that. People start to remember their message then check them out and decide to buy. But the lasting information people remember is their message not what they sell.
Here’s an example Nike sell trainers we all know this but do Nike ever say “we sell trainers come and buy them“. Nope, so how do we know Nike sell trainers and sportswear if they don’t preach about it? We know because they crafted an image, a message which communicates their whole brand.
We learned what they sell the way they market their image and spread their message. You see when you have the basics everything else is built upon that foundation. Which helps strengthen your message thus strengthening your business brand.
Do you know your message that sums up your business? Can you say that message in 10 words or less and still convey the essence of your business? Nike can their simplest message is this “Just Do It”.
