Let me share with you three ways of creating content for your handmade business. I know many makers feel that sharing isn’t that simple. I mean, you do so much in your business. Everything you do in your business, someone wants to know about it. But because you’re immersed in it, living and breathing it, you might think, ‘I don’t know.’ And that’s understandable.
So, I’m going to share with you three things that can help you create content that you can put out, and reuse, and every time you do these three things, it’s actually new content because the angle will be different.
Number one is unboxing. Unboxing is huge, especially on platforms like YouTube. People are curious to see what’s inside a box. Unboxing applies to all genres, industries, and niches. If you receive packages related to your business, whether it’s stationery, raw materials, fabrics, or whatever, consider recording an unboxing video. You don’t have to appear on camera if you’re not comfortable. You can simply show your hands opening the box and talk about what’s inside, how it helps your business and its relevance. This can be done as a live video or pre-recorded, and it’s a form of engaging content.
Number two is something like a ‘haul’ video. On YouTube, people share their shopping experiences where they come back with bags of stuff, and the video involves going through each item and explaining it. In your case, when you go shopping for supplies, you can film yourself opening the bags and talking about each item’s significance for your business. It doesn’t have to be just materials. It could be stationary, tools, or anything that aids your business. This can be broken down into blog posts and shared across social platforms, giving your potential customers a feel for who you are and what you’re about.
Lastly, Number three take your audience shopping with you. If you go to suppliers for materials or tools, bring your camera along and record as you walk through the store. You can share new arrivals, things that inspire you, and your purchases. In the second part of this video, you can show what you’ve bought, talk about the choices you made, and explain how they contribute to your business. This can be split into two videos: the shopping tour and the follow-up with the purchased items. These three content ideas are centered around showcasing your stock, the items you buy, and their relevance to your business.
So, what might seem mundane or normal to you is actually interesting content to others. These three approaches help you share your business journey and products in engaging ways. Remember, what you’re familiar with might be fascinating to your audience.
