It’s good to have a list of sites that keep you entertained whatever your interests. However following others is one thing but when that creeps into your own business production time then “Houston we have a Problem”. It’s easily done and its this ease that will catch you out every time. When you are busy we both know that times just flies by, so all that roaming and reading through your blogroll can quickly take away a few hours, half the day or even more.
We are one person wearing our many business hats so we cant blame no one but ourselves. The sad thing though is it’s our own business that suffers and we have to make up the time. Which can make us fall behind with our tasks, that we have set for that day, week or month. It’s easy to say I’ll do that task tomorrow but what about the tasks that are already planned for tomorrow, do you see whats happening, we will be constantly playing catch up.
As I said we wear all the business hats in our business so its our job to manage time more effectively. Its not going to be easy because our blog-roll will increase and we love to see what others are doing in their blogging space.
The best way is to set a certain amount of time for you to browse your ever-growing blog-roll/list. Use an egg timer, stopwatch or even an alarm clock to keep you in check. Or set a particular day to do your browsing like a Sunday or Saturday evening when you are relaxing in front of the tv or in that 10 – 20 minute period when you have a little break.

I find the trap goes both ways- either I am totally in my own world and subsequently forget I need to interact, share, and nurture others OR I follow, follow, follow and don’t get my stuff done- as you write about in this post. Now, I schedule time for both. Creating is my first priority – it takes the most energy and brain and heart power. Then comes reading, research, and interacting online. Good post 🙂
Hi Melissa,
Yes it can be a catch 22, but you seem to be making it work with making time for checking out others. You get to do whats important to your business and then everything else is ordered accordingly. Organisation of work is the only way to get everything done.
