The key to getting the word out about your products or services is by using words that depict your products or services to a T, which are your keywords.

How to help the search engines find your products
The keywords you need to use, also need to be used by your potential customers. This is an area where many businesses fail because you look at your business from your point of view and not your customers. Have you heard the saying think about what your customer wants and then provide it, well with keywords it works in exactly the same way.

Keywords can be easy or difficult when it comes to competition

Let me break this baby down for you so you fully understand what I mean:

Let’s say you sell cashmere scarves and that’s the words you use to promote your business. You assume people are looking for your business using these words because, that’s what you sell right, nope. These words are what you think they are using, but when you eventually find out with a keyword tool it can be either:

Yes, people are using those keywords. However, because the search results are high you have less of a chance to get onto the first page of the search engine pages

Or you find that your keyword has no searches at all

This is when reality sets in. You have been promoting your business with words that are either not being used. Or the competition is so high your promotion effects are being wasted.

Don’t be disheartened if you find your keywords aren’t ideal. We learn from mistakes a& now you can find keywords that will work for you. By using a keyword tool it will help you find the words your potential customers are using.

So now you know about keywords, its time to learn how to find some words that do reflect your products and will work for your business and not against it.

Finding keywords for your business

First, you need to look at your products and start to break them down. You do this by asking questions about your products and the answers will provide you with ideas for your keywords. At this stage no question or should I say the answer is incorrect. The more basic your questions the better. This process is allowing you to build a list of keywords that will reflect your products.

There are many questions you can ask yourself about your products, you are basically getting descriptive. Let me give you an idea:

What is your product?
What is it made of?
What colour is it?
What makes it’s different from other products like yours?
What other names can describe your product?
Whats words do your potential customers | clients use?

You get the picture, list your descriptive words and use them with a keyword tool.
